Many people consider this film uneven, which is nearly unavoidable when you're creating an anthology film. The tone does shift dramatically from story to story. Over the years, my favorite stories in the film have evolved. As a kid, I hated the first two stories and loved Joe Dante's segment the most; as an adult, I love all the stories but prefer either the first or fourth stories the most.

Oops, there are actually two settings one needs to change for people to vote for multiple choices. And if you add more choices, it gets reset to 1. All fixed now.

I chose as many as applies to me, but then it tells me the max number it 1.

We stream through our Bluray, and in fact, that's why we bought a Bluray when our DVD player died.

To each his own, Hound.

I'd also add Christopher Walken to that list.

I see Michael Caine and Jack Nicholson in the same vein of acting as John Wayne. They always play a version of themselves.

Also, I just got around to watching both True Grits, and I have to say that I prefer the Wayne version.

I think Wayne was a better actor than most people give him credit for. He could play a character as long as that character was enough like John Wayne. That's still acting in my book.

I actually think that John Wayne did some of his best acting in this movie. Admittedly, that is still within a very limited range, but I honestly enjoyed his performance as a bitter old drunk. Tired of always playing the straight hero, Wayne had literally jumped at the chance to play Cogburn and he gave it his best shot, falling off his horse after drinking whiskey all day and licking his lips at the promise of a sizeable reward.

There is no denying that Glen Campbell seems out of his element.

You are right that the film feels like a throwback to an earlier time given that Sam Peckinpah made The Wild Bunch the same year.

I keep going back and forth and whether or not to rent this one. BTW, what's your little content block? N=nudity, V=violence, L=language, and M=mature themes? Are you saying this movie is 3 out of 5 on nudity?
