This can’t be good.
The original TRON was most impressive as a demonstration of technology that was, for the most part, still lingering just over the horizon. It was more of a demo reel with a plot, fondly remembered by the geeks who were wowed by its then-revolutionary visuals and couldn’t be bothered by the lack of an engaging story.
Gentlemen, the hopes and dreams of an entire town are riding on your shoulders. You may never matter again in your life as much as you do right now.
I went to high school at Servite in Anaheim, California, which was about as football crazy as a school gets in Southern California. Football crazy in California, however, is to football crazy in Texas as Presbyterians are to Pentecostals. This movie is about a little town in West Texas where, if the Second Coming happened on any given Friday night during the fall, the locals would likely say to Jesus, “Hold your horses there. Don’t You know there’s a football game on?”
If you keep knocking on the Devil’s door long enough, somebody’s gonna answer you.
It’s easier to get into the story logic of Four Brothers if you remind yourself that your watching a western transplanted to the urban streets of inner city Detroit, and that the original starred John Wayne. This 2005 John Singleton film is an update of 1965′s The Sons of Katie Elder.
