Which productions?

I haven't seen Portman knock it out of th e park, ever. I know many folks will point to Garden State, but I didn't see anything special there.

Christensen was reasonably good in My Life As A House but wasn't exceptional. From what I have seen, his work since that film has been on the same par.

Well, I'm going to have to disagree with you on Portman and Christensen. Having seen other work by them, I know they can deliver the goods when at the service of a competent writer and director.

Well said.

This film is like enjoying getting slapped in the face because Lucas stopped kicking you in the nuts. Sure it sucks but we all know it could be FAR worse.

The problem with this and the other first three Star Wars films is that Lucas wrote them and directed them. This was the problem with the original trilogy. The guy has his talents, but he is an unbelieveable hack director. All one ever needs to know (beyond Jar-Jar is Lucas' continued use of the "Tarzen yell" when Chewbacca would swing from a rope. I can't think of any other a-list director that is so clueless as to use that gag once let alone multiple times.

Since I'm bitching...

It doesn't matter if Shakespeare wrote the screenplay, Portman and Christensen would still suck. Crap actors make for crap acting, end of story.

Man, I'm cranky.

At least the films mainstreamed MacGregor. He may be the best of his generation.

I'll try to be less pissy with my next comment.

BTW you've been kicking butt with your reviews as of late, better that ever. Your post on Star Trek is great. You put me to shame.
