I never watched the series on TV, and only vaguely understood the one-armed-man plot when I watched this film for the first time. I was completely entranced by how beautiful Sela Ward looked as the proud Doctor's wife, and horrified at the brutal murder scene. I thought the movie was extremely clever and exciting. I don't know who I liked more: the wisecracking Tommy Lee Jones or the cerebral man of action Harrison Ford. If one can deal with the dated styles (remember ponytail man?) I highly recommend this movie as an action packed rental. Good call!
