I can’t bring myself to see the remake either. The most amazing scene has to be when Lansbury talks about making martial law look like anarchy and she kisses her son on the lips. Talk about the shoe dropping! Her performance is simply incredible. Again, a tragic movie. But I wouldn’t call Senator Iselin unambitious. Sure, he’s ambitious; he likes the power. But he is merely a tool for his controlling, ambitious wife.

The remake is pretty good actually. Very sceptical that it could even be half decent since i love the original so much, but Jonathan Demne is a talented director and takes it in an interesting direction. There’s a few great cameos and Streep is fantastically unctious in the Lansbury role.

i can’t bear to bring myself to watch the remake after seeing the original. don’t see how it could be improved. angela lansbury is superb, not to mention ole blue eyes, himself.

I saw the remake of this movie, but have not seen the orignal. I will most likely rent it now. Might I suggest you rent a movie called “Snake Pit”. It is about a woman in a mental institution in I believe the 1940s. It’s wonderful.
