Vertigo has to be amongst my favorite Hitchcock movies. The scene where we see Judy (Kim Novak in her double role) for the first time, took my breath away. Would love to have others' thoughts on this scene.

3 cats & a golden mentions Spellbound, another one of my favorites. One of the most memorable scenes, I have ever seen is when Ingrid Brigman realizes Gregory Peck is not the famed psychologist he claims to be. In this scene, he is bedridden, sitting next to him, Bergman has an autographed copy of his text on the "Guilt Complex", she suddenly sees that the autograph doesn't match the signature Peck provided on entering the hospital. An absolutely silent and powerful scene.

Another one of my favorites is "The Lady Vanishes", about a lady who got on a train and could not be found. The train has not made any stops. An excellent movie with a superb touch of Hitchcock's special effects!

This is one of my favorite movies. It's the only movie Jimmy Stewart made where I don't like his character. Scotty is obsessed with a married woman, misses the boat on Midge and gets creepy when he transforms Judy into Madeline. Did you know that Hitchcock appears in cameo in all his movies? Here is a link for future. http://hitchcock.tv/cam/cameos.html

One of my favorite movies. My nieces saw it and didn't really get it though. They didn't like the "descent into mental illness" dream. Also, Hitch was really into giving psychological explanations (that border on the glib) to explain what's wrong with the hero and to advance the exposition. But the theories are very out-of-date and the device is clumsy. (See also his movie Spellbound.) But as for Vertigo, as in many of his movies, the score is phenomenal. Bernard Herrmann. As a side note, I found Kim Novak's performance to be much better here than in Picnic (used to like that film; not so much anymore.) But Peter Bogdonavitch, who knew Jimmy Stewart, said in a TCM interview that Stewart told him that he and Novak had a torrid affair. Really tore up the sheets, he told him. I was surprised by this - had never heard that before - but it bothered me also. Always had heard that Stewart was such a nice man and adored his wife. I'm sure he did (after his wife died, his health went downhill dramatically and he no longer wanted to live) but I guess he wasn't immune to beautiful women.

Paul - not knowing where else to post this question/comment...do you review movies that are still in the theatre? If not, I guess I'll have to wait to see what you think about "A History of Violence" I just saw it last night and I'm still thinking about it...I don't want to miss your review!
